Escape into another Time and Place:
into the Era of Rum-Runners,
Flappers, and Bathtub Gin ...
Soft focus your eyes back to the year 1929, don a fedora and wide tie, and tell the bouncer "Paddy sent me." Prohibition has been in effect for nine years, and bathtub gin is a national craze. The stock market is booming. Al Capone is boss of Chicago's gangland.
But Chicago has nothing on Des Moines: the bright lights, the night life, the excitement, the thrills! Younkers Tea Room! Salisbury House! The Savery Hotel! In Des Moines, gambling is rife in downtown gaming dens, lovers dance the Charleston at the Val Air Ballroom, international spies are murdered in back alleyways, and sophisticated ladies play cut-throat bridge in the evenings while sipping Templeton Rye
The latest fashionable watering hole in Des Moines is a 'gin joint' called Monihan's on the ground floor of the elegant Hotel Savery. Everyone who really is anyone has been seen there - the crème-de-la-crème of Iowa high society. Tonight, a soirée for the elite is being held at the Savery Penthouse on the roof of the hotel. Gangsters, flappers, spies, and federal agents are gathered at Monihan's while millionaires, high-fashion models, English lords, and gangsters hobnob on the rooftop patio overlooking the enchanting lights of the Downtown Loop.
Excitement, intrigue, and danger are rife on this last night of the Roaring Twenties. You are cordially invited to attend the soirée at the Savery Penthouse, where secretaries rub shoulders with debutantes, cat burglars survey their prey, and gold diggers mingle with high society nobs. Money talks, and sometimes it whispers "murder."
PALLADIAN Interactive Theatre takes its unique concept of audience-participation theatre to the elegant Hotel Savery Penthouse for an incredible re-creation of the Roaring Twenties. It's more like stepping through a time machine than attending a theatre event.
